Investigation Launched Into ‘Incitement to Suicide’ After SSSG Employee Found Dead in Car
An investigation has been launched into “incitement to suicide” after an employee of the State Security Service of Georgia (SSSG) was found dead in a car outside the SSSG headquarters in central Tbilisi on January 26.
“An employee of the Anti-Corruption Agency [of the State Security Service] was found dead this morning in his personal car with a gunshot wound,” Prosecutor General’s Office stated on January 26, announcing the investigation. “During the inspection of the scene, a firearm found with the deceased was retrieved, as well as a letter found on the passenger seat,” it added.
In its first comment to the media, the SSSG confirmed the deceased was its employee, describing him as “very experienced” and “dignified, who everybody loved.”
In a subsequent statement, the SSSG identified the employee as Simon Tsakadze, a senior inspector at the Anti-Corruption Agency who had worked there since 2015.
“What we can say is that several months ago the employee underwent bariatric surgery abroad, lost dozens of kilograms, and experienced some related health problems,” the SSSG said, adding, “According to colleagues, the employee arrived at work earlier than usual this morning, apparently took a firearm, left the workplace, and was later found dead in a personal vehicle with a gunshot wound. A letter was left on the passenger seat.”
“These are only preliminary details. The investigation will determine further information,” the SSSG said.
